- High courts currently have a sanctioned strength of 1,080 judges and are working with only 661 judges (39% vacancy).
- Out of the total vacancies in the High Court 211 recommendations were yet to be received from high court collegiums.
- Of the total 116 proposals pending with the Department of justice, 48 proposals (41.37 per cent) are awaiting clearance from the Intelligence Bureau.
Human action in climate change
- State of the planet’ study says that human action is now a significant threat to the resilience and stability of the biosphere, where all life exists.
- Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, say that, since the 1950s, human action has altered the biosphere significantly, with humans and the mammals they domesticate/consume making up 96% of the total mammalian weight of the planet.
MGNREGA and water conservation
- The rural development ministry noted in a release in 2019, meant 75% of the activities in the list of those permissible under MGNREGA “directly improve water security and water conservation efforts”.
- Over the past 15 years, nearly 30 million water-conservation related works—or 50/per Indian village—have been executed under the programme, creating a water conservation potential of close to 29,000 million cubic metres.
