Hunger and Malnutrition:
- In terms of overall undernutrition, 14 % of the population doesn’t get enough calories.
- 35% of children are stunted. This was 54% in 2000.
- 17% of under 5 children are wasted. This is highest in the world.
- 42% of adolescent girls have low BMI and 56% anaemic.
- 27% of girls married before age.
- According to FAO the share of India’s population unable to afford an energy-sufficient diet has shrunk to just 0.9%, the share of people unable to afford a nutrient-adequate diet is a large 39.1% and those unable to afford a healthy diet is a much higher 77.9%.
ASER report:
- About 20% of rural children have no textbooks at home.
- In Andhra Pradesh, less than 35% of children had textbooks, and only 60% had textbooks in Rajasthan.
- More than 98% had textbooks in West Bengal, Nagaland and Assam.
- 3% of rural children’s are not enrolled in schools compared to 1.8% last year.
- In 2018 about 36% of rural households with school-going children had smartphones.
- Today that figure had spiked to 62%.
- About 11% of families bought a new phone after the lockdown, of which 80% were smartphones.
- India’s share in the merchandise export at the time of the independence in 1947 was 2.2%. It dropped to 0.5% in 1983 and marginally raised to 0.7% in 2000. Currently India’s share in worlds’ export is around 1.7%.
- In 2000, India’s total trade was $ 103 bn, in 2010 it was $ 525 bn and in 2020 it is around $ 787 bn

Ischemic Heart Disease or Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) kills more than 4,000 Indians daily (Covid is killing about 1,100 a day).

IPBES Report:
- The current pandemic would have cost around $16 trillion globally by July 2020.
- Accor the cost to reduce the risks of future pandemics would be at least 100 times less than the cost to deal with these pandemics.
- We are yet to identify some 1.7 million viruses that exist in mammals and birds. Out of these, 50 per cent have the potential or ability to infect humans.
