    Day 61

    Topic: India and its neighborhood relations

    1. Examine the evolving China-Nepal ties and challenges it entails for India. Also, suggest India’s strategy to deal with evolving China-Nepal ties.

    Hint: China’s increasing presence in India’s neighbourhood has been a major concern for Indian interests. In recent times the deterioration of India-Nepal ties also accompanied better Nepal-China ties. In this question you have to first examine this evolving Nepal-China relations and what challenges it will create for India with which Nepal is so integrated. Finally suggest a way out for addressing these challenges.

    Introduction (I): India-Nepal ties which is based on people-to-people relations, cultural, security etc. has been facing uphill task in recent times due to closer Nepal-China ties.

    Body (B): 1) Explain and discuss various areas of cooperation between Nepal and China (funding, Connectivity, BRI etc..).

    2) Discuss how these closer cooperation impacts India’s interest (Ex- Open border between India-Nepal, security concerns, India’s regional standing etc.).

    3) Suggest measures to balance relations as in IR it can’t force Nepal to not have relation with the China, but India can rebalance its relations with Nepal for whom closer relations with India is of interest.

    Conclusion (C): Indi-Nepal relation is unlike any countries and is deeply intrinsic tied by trade, open borders, marriages etc and thus it is time to give due attention to the relationship.

    1. Bangladesh has been one of the successes of India’s Neighbourhood policy. In this context discuss the nature of relationship between two and challenges which need to be given priority.

    Hint: First the success of policy w.r.t Bangladesh has to be discussed and then nature of relationship has to be brought, finally existing challenges can be discussed.

    Introduction (I): Throw light on India’s Neighbourhood First policy.

    Body (B): 1) Through examples and argument show how Bangladesh is an example of the success of the policy (closer relations, frequent bilateral visits, settling maritime dispute, defence and nuclear cooperation etc.).

    2) Discuss relation between two (bilateral, regional, security cooperation, geopolitical cooperation etc.).

    3) Also discuss challenges which needs to be addressed (porous border, fundamentalism, relations dependent on party in power in Bangladesh, West Bengal’s concern over Teesta river etc.)

    Conclusion (C): Suggest way ahead for the same.
