  • In 2009, the number went up to 30%
  • In 2014 34% of MPs were from criminal background
  • In 2019 as many as 43% of MPs had criminal cases pending against them.

  • The Supreme Court in February, 2020 directed political parties to upload on their websites and social media platforms the details of pending criminal cases against their candidates.
  • The Supreme Court also asked the parties to publish reasons as to why they are selected, as also for not giving ticket to those without criminal antecedents.
