Criminalization of Politics:
- In 2004, 24% of the Members of Parliament had criminal cases pending against them.
- In 2009, the number went up to 30%
- In 2014 34% of MPs were from criminal background
- In 2019 as many as 43% of MPs had criminal cases pending against them.

Decriminalization of Politics
- The Supreme Court in February, 2020 directed political parties to upload on their websites and social media platforms the details of pending criminal cases against their candidates.
- The Supreme Court also asked the parties to publish reasons as to why they are selected, as also for not giving ticket to those without criminal antecedents.
