    Urbanization:

    • Indian cities are home to 461 million people and generates 63 per cent of the country’s GDP,
    • The share of manufacturing in India’s GDP has remained stagnant around 16 per cent for nearly three decades.
    • The share of services is around 55 per cent share in the economy.
    • In India, every year, around 300 million people are at a risk of dying from NCDs.
    • The WHO has estimated that more than 60 per cent of the deaths in India are a result of cardiac diseases, respiratory disorders and cancer, and 26 per cent of this 60 per cent is among those who are within the age bracket 30-70 years.

    Old Age Population:

    In India, only 7 per cent of older people have smartphones.

    Tobacco Related Issue:

    India has the second largest number of tobacco users (268 million) in the world — of these at least 12 lakh die every year from tobacco-related diseases

    Accidental Deaths:

    India loses many lives to fires each year: at 12,748 accidental deaths in 2018, nearly double the number caused by forces of nature, according to NCRB data.

    Rice and Wheat Production:

    • India is the world’s second largest producer of both rice and wheat.
    • It is cultivated on 45 million hectares in kharif and rabi seasons, rice production has consistently risen over the years from 104.4 million tonnes (mt) in 2015-16 to 117.9 mt in 2019-20.
    • Wheat, a rabi crop, is planted on around 30 million hectares and its harvest stood at 107.2 mt in 2019-20, up from 92.3 mt five years ago.

    Employment Related Issue:

    • 85 % of farmers are small and marginal.
    • There will be 90 million additional workers looking for non-farm jobs by 2030
    • India will have to triple job creation to 12 million gainful non-farm jobs per year from the 4 million a year achieved between 2013 and 2018.
