- Wholesale price index-based inflation surged to an all-time high of 10.49 per cent in April due to a low base effect amid rising food and commodity prices.
FDI
- According to data released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), while the direct investment to India in FY21 stood at $54.665 billion, FDI by India amounted to $11.299 billion, thereby resulting into a net FDI of $43.336 billion.

Topic: Salient features of the Representation of People’s Act; Development processes and the development industry the role of NGOs, SHGs, various groups and associations, donors, charities, institutional and other stakeholders
1. What do you understand by freebies? Do they come under corrupt activities under provisions Sec123 of RPA 1951? [Reference: Economic Times]
Hint: Bit of factual question but often in news and can be used elsewhere. It is particularly relevant with frequent misuse during the elections.
Introduction (I): Explain what is meant by the freebies and how it is frequently resorted to in Indian election campaigns. Body (B): 1) Talk of corrupt activities under RPA, 1951 and discuss if freebies comes under it. Refer to the SC opinion on it and how freebies violate the atmosphere of elections. 2) Suggest effective measures to address freebies culture Conclusion (C): Such practices are challenge to free and fair elections and one person one vote principle. |
Hint: The answer has to detail about the civil society, its role and how it is a vital link between the rulers and the ruled and also highlight what challenges it faces performing the later role.
Introduction (I): Define Civil Society. You can add any recent famous example of civil society acting as a link between rulers and ruled. Body (B): 1) Discuss how civil society play a significant role, give examples as much as you can to prove your point. 2) How it faces challenges as a link between the rulers and ruled. Conclusion (C): Here, you can suggest measures to address those challenges. |
3. NGOs play important role in development of India but they pose an equal security concern. Critically examine. What measures are needed to regulate the NGOs? [Reference: The Hindu]
Hint: The question is clear in bringing for the debate around the development role of NGO and security concern it creates at times. And, then you have to suggest measures to establish balance to by effective regulation to take care of two goals.
Introduction (I): What are NGOs and role they play? Body (B): 1) In first part argue how the role of NGOs have created security concerns (IB report etc.). 2) Then discuss while security concerns is genuine at the same time NGO’s development role can’t be denied (Mention those). 3) Suggest a comprehensive measure for effective regulation and enabling of NGOs. Conclusion (C): NGOs have come to play a prominent rile in a welfare state in context of withdrawal of state from many activities and needs an enabling regulatory or self-regulatory framework. |
