Minimum months to crack UPSC

Once a young man (IAS aspirant) asked an elderly wise man “How many days it will take to reach Delhi( become IAS) from Chennai?” The wise man smiled and remained silent. The young aspirant became nervous and begged the wise man to reply as he was determined to reach Delhi (become IAS)

Then the wise man replied that it depends upon your speed. If you plan to travel this journey on foot it may take months. This happens to aspirants who study for UPSC as a recreational activity (part time hobby) since they want something new in their life. For them UPSC is just an option. These aspirants will take years if not decades to crack IAS.

Second category of aspirants who will take a train ticket to reach Delhi (reading any material they get their hands on and buying some Xerox test series from Karol Bagh). They will take 34 hours to reach Delhi. This means an IAS aspirant who has no personal guidance relying blindly only on websites and online material test series ( run by unknown people ) will take years to crack as there is no personal guidance about what to read and what to skip.

The third category of aspirant will take a flight ticket (economy). These aspirants will join good coaching institutes but will have no personal guidance. These big coaching institutes will have 1000’s of students .They will make mistakes but may learn from experienced teachers in these coaching institutes. These teacher would advise them during lectures so that they will correct his mistakes. But he will also take couple of years.

The fourth category of aspirants will take Business class ticket (The best guidance in India – from people who have cleared the prelims exam and mains exam themselves multiple times). These aspirants will get personal guidance about what not to do. They will have advantage over all other aspirants. These aspirants will reach Delhi fastest and most comfortable journey i.e will clear exam in one year.

It’s your personal call which category you want to join.
