Sudan has a tropical climate characterized by a rainy season of high humidity and large amounts of rainfall followed by a drier season

Summer temperatures often exceed 43.3 degrees Celsius (110 degrees Fahrenheit) in the desert zones, and rainfall is negligible.

Dust storms frequently occur in desert zone. High temperatures also occur in the south throughout the central plains region, but the humidity is generally low

  • It includes the vast swamp region of the Sudd, formed by the White Nile and known locally as the Bahr al Jabal meaning “Mountain River”
  • South Sudan has a population of approximately 11 million and a predominantly rural, subsistence economy.
  • This region has been negatively affected by war for all but 10 of the years since 1956, resulting in serious neglect, lack of infrastructure development, and major destruction and displacement.
