Hint: WTO’s role has been at the centre of controversy due to rising protectionism as well as increasing regional pacts. In this context you have to discuss its mandate, Critically examine its role (success/failure both) and the argue for need of WTO in spite of current challenges.

Introduction (I): Start directly with WTO and its mandate.

Body (B): 1) Present the success of WTO over the years (various agreements, dispute settlement, equal power to all etc.)

2) Discuss its challenges or failures (ineffective dispute settlement, West-dominated, failure to take Doha round forward etc.)

3) Discuss how in current context reform of WTO is needed and what reforms are needed.

Conclusion (C): Conclude on lines that the WTO as a rule-making and implementing body is need of the hour when global economy is witnessing challenges.
