“
Whoever travels without a guide needs two hundred years for a two-day journey”.-Rumi
Civil Services Examination process is a long and arduous journey. For writing one sincere attempt (Till interview) you need to at least prepare for 24 months (2 years). If you have a guide, who knows the path and has himself travelled on it, your journey becomes smooth and exciting. Otherwise, it ends up like “Chakravyuh “from which only few are able to come out.
“Students fail not because they don’t work hard but they fail because they lack a Mentor who
can propel their hard work and energy in right direction”
Your Performance Is Reflection of How You Are Trained and Mentored
Short Story to Start With
As a man was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at any time, break away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not.
He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away. “Well,” trainer said, “when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.”
The man was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they could not, they were stuck right where they were.
Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we cannot do something,
Simply because we failed at it once before?
Simply because we are trained in wrong way?
Simply because nobody mentored us in right way?
Simply because our weak belief dominated our strong belief?
That’s what an able mentor can do, they are your external eyes and ear providing a more accurate picture of reality, and they help in breaking your wrong actions and reconstruct them into reinforced action in right direction.
Mentoring is sharing knowledge, skills and life experience to guide another towards reaching their full potential; it’s a journey of shared discovery.
What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others
